Score: Novato Stingers 34*, Esparto Spartans 0
* mercy rule invoked before the end of the second-quarter
The Novato Stingers defense shut-out their opponents for the fifth straight game and pushed their record to 5-0 with a win over the visiting Esparto Spartans at the Novato High School field. This time, three Stingers players accounted for all the scoring, but the entire team played exceptionally well to keep their unblemished season rolling.
While nearly every player should be called out for making key contributions in this game, it's the same three standouts for the second week in a row. Half-back Ben Putman (10) opened the scoring with a 7-yard run on the opening drive, followed it with a rushing PAT and capped the action with a 15-yard run to the end-zone in the second-half. Running back Alec Ball (12) ran rampant with three touchdown runs of 13, 60 and 30-yards in the first-half. Mark Alvarez (21) had another fine day as well with a 60-yard catch and run for a touchdown, and he also kicked a 2-point PAT on the day.
